Here are a few tips to make sure your vehicle is in optimal condition for those holiday road trips.

1) Inspect your windshield for any defects

The windshield is one of the largest safety features on your vehicle. With that being said, it is very important to make sure it is free of chips and cracks. If something were to happen to your vehicle, your windshield cannot protect you to its fullest ability with those defects. Make sure to get those fixed before you start traveling to your destination. 2) Make sure to check your tires

Tires are another very important part of your vehicle. They’re what guide you from destination to destination. Before you leave, do a thorough check to see if you have low tire pressure, any nails or other problems with your tires. If you do find something, call and make an appointment to get it inspected and fixed. You don’t want to be driving high speeds with a malfunctioning tire.

3) Have an emergency vehicle kit

Even if you have checked everything prior to leaving you cannot foresee every emergency. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle in case you break down or have to handle an unforeseen event. This emergency kit should include all necessary tire changing tools, first aid supplies and some snacks. Another good thing to keep in your vehicle is the number for roadside assistance. It doesn’t hurt to be prepared.

4) Give yourself extra driving time

With a lot of people making trips during the holidays, there is bound to be traffic. Sometimes your GPS will see it coming and other times it won’t. Allow yourself time for these surprise traffic jams, possible accidents and crazy drivers. If you ever feel stressed, impatient or experience anger while driving, make sure to take a quick break. Your fellow drivers and family will thank you later.

5) Never drive distracted

Whether it is a distraction because of other passengers, technology or drugs and alcohol, never drive distracted! If you have passengers, ask one to help you navigate to avoid looking at your technology. If you have to use your cell phone, pull off and answer that call. If you are under the influence never get behind the wheel. When you drive distracted, not only are you putting your life at risk but your passengers and fellow drivers lives as well.
